The Chase star Anne Hegerty has revealed the reason why she’ll never do Strictly Come Dancing.
The 65-year-old professional quizzer is no stranger to reality TV and appeared on gruelling ITV show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! back in 2018. However, she’s not interested in competing to lift the prestigious Glitterball trophy by showing off her moves in the BBC ballroom.
Speaking to Daily Star, she explained: “Not really my sort of thing I have to say. One of my colleagues in Australia has just done Dancing with the Stars Australia and did very well. I cannot dance. I can’t remember dance routines and if I could I wouldn’t be able to replicate them.”

Anne has appeared on The Chase as The Governess since 2010 and she’s also starred on rival quiz show Mastermind twice but both performances didn’t go to plan. Comparing what it is like being on the other side of a quiz, Anne previously told Express.co.uk: “I love being a Chaser and I find it easier that we’re sitting down to be honest because when they’re [the contestants] standing up I look at them and sometimes I can see their knees shaking.
“So I would rather be a Chaser [than a contestant] but at the same time, we do give them advantages. We give them a head start on the board, we give them a head start in the Final Chase, they have the opportunity to push us back, so we do give them opportunities. And when we’re doing Beat the Chasers we give them like a massive time advantage.
“If I’m not playing I like just kind of watching the clock and gradually their time advantage disappears and then they’re level and then we get ahead.”
Anne first appeared on Mastermind in 1987 with the specialist topic: The Life and Works of Lorenz Hart – the famous lyricist. Pictures were posted on a fan group on Twitter and Anne looks almost unrecognisable with a curly bob hairstyle and glasses wearing an oversized multicoloured frock.
A screenshot doing the rounds on social media shows the ITV star sat in the famous chair with Anne responding to the tweet. “Recorded late in 1987 – on the same night as the King’s Cross fire, as it happens,” she revealed to her followers at the time.

One user replied: “OMG you look so funny [crying with laugher emoji].”(sic) Anne responded: “I look pretty funny now!”. Anne was one of the favourites to take over the hosting of Mastermind from John Humphrey’s when he announced his retirement after 18 years of running the BBC show. However, the role eventually went to award-winning newsreader and broadcaster Clive Myrie.
