A defeated Tipping Point contestant told host Ben Shephard to “get the taxi” following several blunders on the show.
Monday’s installment (October 2) of the ITV show saw Tony face off against Freddie and Emily in a bid to come away with the coveted £10,000 jackpot prize. Retired hospital worker Tony from Manchester struggled from the offset, however, responding incorrectly to several questions in the opening roundc, and even wrongly stated the date of Halloween as October 30 rather than October 31.
Banking nothing as he headed into the second round, Tony then answered three questions in a minute correctly, earning him three counters to play with. Trailing Freddie and Emily by some distance, Tony focused his efforts on the double your money counter in a bid to salvage something from his stint.

In doing so, he played all of his first two counters into drop zone two of the machine, but it soon became apparent his luck was out as he told Ben: “Just get the taxi.”
After the third token bagged him £150 – some way below Freddie’s £1,500 and Emily’s £800 – Tony’s time was up. “Oh Tony I’m so sorry,” said Ben. “It’s not going to be enough to catch them. Tony I’m so sorry – you’ve been great. Thanks for playing.”
Graceful Tony responded: “Thanks for having me. It’s been a wonderful day – absolutely brilliant.” Viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, after the show with mixed reactions. Some sympathised with Tony over the difficulty of his questions, whilst others felt he got what he deserved.
One commented: “It wasn’t a wonderful day Tony, they screwed you at every turn #TippingPoint.” Another agreed, adding: “Tony had long questions. FIX. #TippingPoint.”
A third wasn’t so kind, declaring: “Not such a grrrreat day for Tony #TippingPoint.” And a fourth said: “Well Tony, that was s***e”.
Ultimately, Freddie went on to the final round, scooping a cool £2,600 as the jackpot counter failed to drop by a matter of millimetres. It follows an hilarious instalment of the show last week that left Ben in stitches as fans declared the contestants’ showing as the “worst performance ever.”

In the second round, Ben asked contestant Mike: “Dentures are designed to be used in which part of the human body?” Not giving it a second thought, Mike confidently responded: “Feet”. Afterwards, the Good Morning Britain host was forced to address the answer and couldn’t hold back the laughter.
Later in the episode, Nila was asked which GMB star wrote the book “The Joy of Big Knickers”. After some deliberation, the contestant opted to go for ex-GMB presenter Piers Morgan, leaving Ben in stitches once again. Confirming it was in fact Kate Garraway, Ben couldn’t resist making a cheeky dig at his former co-star as he joked: “It was not Piers Morgan. Although by all accounts he does like a big pair of knickers.”
Tipping Point airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 4pm
