1000lb Sisters’ Tammy Slaton stunned she ‘didn’t need two seats’ on first-ever flight

1000lb Sisters star Tammy Lee Slaton was left in shock during her first-ever flight after realising she didn’t even need the two seats she’d paid for.

The 37-year-old reality star, who rose to fame alongside her sister Amy Slaton on their hit TLC show, hit a major milestone in her incredible weight loss journey recently when she was finally able to board a plane for the first time in her life. In a significant moment posted on TLC’s YouTube channel, Tammy, from Kentucky, could be seen looking nervous as she boarded a flight to Pensacola, Florida.

“Getting on the plane I’m shaking, I’m scared as heck,” she said. But as she boarded the aircraft Tammy was quickly stunned by the fact that her major body transformation meant she was actually able to fit in the seat and could even do her seatbelt up.

She added: “When I actually got on the plane and sat down and was comfortable I was kind of surprised that I didn’t need both seats that we paid for and honestly I wasn’t sure if my seatbelt was gonna fit around me so I tried and it does fit.” The nerves soon kicked in again though and Tammy could be seen bowing her head as the plane started taking off.

“I was cool until we actually started lifting off,” she recalled. At one point Tammy looked particularly terrified as the plane began to shake.

“My family forgot to mention some stuff about the plane ride, the turbulence it was really bad,” she said. Eventually, she calmed down and was able to enjoy her first flight.

Tammy added: “Once I was able to compare it to things I’ve already done, like riding in a car or going over train tracks, I was golden.” As the aircraft touched down Tammy celebrated with her hands in the air as she exclaimed: “We made it, safely!”

She ended up enjoying the journey so much she didn’t want to get off the plane. “I was happy to land but then at the same time I wasn’t, I enjoyed it, just the adrenaline rush I guess, the thrill of it,” she said.

Tammy, who has lost more than 300lbs, appeared to still be struggling when it comes to walking as she was seen being taken out of the airport in a wheelchair but fans flooded the comment section to congratulate her on her progress. One person wrote: “And just to think that a few months ago, she wouldn’t have even CONSIDERED flying on a plane. She’s come so far!”

Another said: “No stopping her now, Tammy is going to want to go on holiday a lot. Congratulations.” A third added: “She is doing an amazing job!! Go Tammy!! It’s been such a pleasure seeing her journey.”

Tammy once weighed in at a staggering 725lbs and struggled for years to lose any weight. Fans of the show will know that after finally managing to shed some pounds she was given the green light to undergo bariatric surgery.

Her weight loss journey has seen her face a number of big setbacks, including a near-death experience after quitting rehab early and the death of her husband Caleb Willingham, who she met and married at the weight loss facility where they were both patients. But Tammy has now managed to shed more than half her body weight and has reached her lowest weight since she was a teenager.

In another moment during season five of the reality series, Tammy went to see her weight loss doctor Dr Smith and learnt she’s now down to 420lbs. She couldn’t believe the news as she said: “I was so worried about the number, but in six months I lost over 100lbs. The last time I weighed this low I was like 15, 16. It’s mind-blowing, like, I freaking really did this.”
