Alison Hammond has appeared to drop a hint that she’s leaving For The Love Of Dogs after just one series.
The beloved ITV series made a return to our screens last month for a new series – with host Alison Hammond at the helm. She took over the role from the late Paul O’Grady, who tragically passed away last year.
After the show made its grand return, Alison received a lukewarm reception from viewers as she paid a visit to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. But it was soon reported that the latest figures for the show dropped significantly after Alison took the reins of the show.

According to figures published by The Sun, the first episode of the new show had an average of 1.8million viewers, reaching a high of 2m at its peak. This pales in comparison to Paul’s stint on the show, when viewing figures were almost double this on a regular basis.
Now, Alison has cryptically posted on social media hinting that she could be walking away from the For The Love Of Dogs stint. Taking to her Instagram, she celebrated her first-run on the programme.
But it was her telling comment that could appear to hint at her not returning to host the ITV show. Alongside a promo photo of the show, she wrote: “Final episode of For The Love Of Dogs.” Then, referring to the role in the past tense, Alison cryptically added: “I loved every minute of it.”
It comes after it was reported earlier this month that sources claimed that ITV was “very disappointed” with how Alison has performed on the show.
A source told the Mirror: “Unfortunately the casting has not worked out how the team behind the show hoped – and it has turned out to be a bit of a misfit.
“ITV are very disappointed because it’s such a well-loved programme, and of course, Alison is an ITV favourite too. But unfortunately sometimes in spite of everyone’s best efforts, things just don’t work out.”
Alison herself has previously addressed the criticism hurled at her after she was announced as the new host of the show. Speaking to The Sun’s TV Mag, she explained: “I was actually surprised with how much I got for doing the show.
“I could understand in the sense that Paul was so loved, and people were saying: ‘How can she do Love Of Dogs when she doesn’t have a dog? ‘How does she love dogs when she doesn’t have a dog?’ It’s like saying: ‘How can you love children when you haven’t got kids?’”
She slammed the arguments as “flawed” and urged those who did not want to watch the show to just avoid it. “If you don’t want to help Battersea, don’t watch it,” she added.
