Amy Winehouse made a tragic confession shortly before her untimely death.
The songstress, who was known for her impressive pipes and husky, jazz-inspired voice, sadly died back in July 2011 from alcohol poisoning. She was found dead in her home in Camden, North London, after many years struggling with drink and drug issues.
In the weeks before she died, Amy had begun binge drinking heavily once again and at the inquest into her death, the GP who visited her the night before she died – Dr Christina Romete – gave a testimony.

Christina explained that Amy had confided in the medical professional regarding her drinking habits. According to the doc, Winehouse told her: “I don’t want to die.”

“She was one of the most intelligent young women I’ve ever met. She was very determined to do everything her way, including her therapy. She had very strict views on that,” recalled Romete. Amy had been prescribed Librium to help with alcohol withdrawal, but she would not accept mental health support.

Romete told the court that Winehouse believed the help would hinder her creativity, therefore opting to battle her demons quietly. Romete spoke about Amy’s final night at the inquest and explained that the chart-topping singer was “tipsy” yet “able to hold a conversation,” although “calm and somewhat guilty”.

As Winehouse confessed she’d started drinking just three days prior to her death and as the doctor asked Amy if she had any plans to stop, the starlet simply replied: “I don’t know.” Romete continued: “The advice I had given to Amy over a long period of time was verbal and in written form about all the effects alcohol can have on the system, including respiratory depression and death, heart problems, fertility problems and liver problems.”

The world was rocked by the news of Amy’s death. It was concluded by deputy coroner Suzanne Greenaway that she has tragically passed away from “accidental alcohol poisoning”.
“She had consumed sufficient alcohol and the unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden and unexpected death.”
