Angelina Jolie hired hitman to kill her but assassin’s response saved her life

Angelina Jolie once hired a hitman for her own murder.

Aged 22, the actress spoke to an assassin in order to plan her death. She first revealed her gruesome plan back in 2001 and told IMDb: “This is going to sound insane but there was a time I was going to hire somebody to kill me.”

Jolie’s reasoning for the bizarre move was that she thought it would be easier for her loved ones to deal with her death if she was murdered, rather than if she killed herself. Two years after her IMDb interview, Angelina opened up again with The Face.

“They’re [hitmen] not that hard to find in New York. As insane as it sounds, I think a lot of people consider suicide when they’re young,” she confessed. Angelina said that she was “very aware” that many people around her would “feel as though they didn’t give enough or do enough” if she’d taken her own life.

“So, my solution to that was if someone else had taken my life – like in a ‘robbery’ – then it would be murder and it wouldn’t be that anyone would feel they’d let me down.” According to the starlet, she had already decided how she’d do it.

Jolie planned to “take out cash over a certain amount of time,” so that it wouldn’t raise suspicion and that there “wasn’t a big chunk in her bank account”. Although Jolie seemed up for it, the hitman was not.

“He was a decent enough person and asked if I could think about it and call him again in two months. Something changed in my life and I figured I’d stick it out.” The lucky call saved Angelina’s life and she went on to become one of the biggest actresses in the whole of Hollywood.

She has previously touched upon her struggles with mental health and in 2011, Jolie told 60 Minutes: “I went through heavier, darker times and I survived them. I didn’t die young, so I’m very lucky. There are other artists and people who didn’t survive certain things.”
