Ant and Dec take brutal swipe at Coleen Rooney just minutes into I’m A Celebrity

Ant and Dec made a savage swipe at Coleen Rooney minutes after she appeared on I’m A Celebrity.

This year’s series of the ITV reality show is now underway after the first episode aired on Sunday (November 17). Hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly returned to our screens to host the show once again, and they wasted no time in getting some sly digs in.

The pair took aim at Coleen’s famous Wagatha court battle as they welcomed viewers to Australia for the latest series of I’m A Celebrity. Among the famous faces that have headed down under for the challenge are podcaster GK Barry, N-Dubz star Tulisa and WAG Coleen Rooney.

Coleen is making herself at home in the camp after scoring the highest ever participation fee in the history of the show. ITV bosses paid out an eye-watering £1.5million to Coleen to land her on the show, breaking the previous record of £1million to get Reform UK leader Nigel Farage into the jungle.

Ant and Dec did not shy away from Coleen’s off-screen dramas however, as just minutes into the new series, the cheeky Geordie pair brought up the infamous Wagatha Christie saga. Dec joked: “It will be nice for her to face a trial that doesn’t involve Rebekah Vardy,”

The comment referred to the high-profile court case between the former pals after Coleen accused Rebecca of selling fake stories about her to the press, in an infamous post on her Instagram page.

Rebekah strongly denies the allegations made against brought Coleen to court, accusing the Scouser of libel in July of 2022. However, the judge found in favour of Coleen, who is married to former Manchester United star Wayne, and ordered Rebekah to pay out hundreds of thousands of pounds to cover legal costs.

When asked about what she made of Coleen entering the jungle, Rebekah told The Sun newspaper: “We’ll be watching avidly. Everyone seems to think I have this massive problem with Coleen going into the jungle.

“But do you know what? If you want to fan the fire, the flames are going to get higher,” Rebekah added. “I wasn’t going to carry on talking about this. I had no intention of talking about it, but she clearly can’t let it go.”

Previously, it had been reported that Rebekah had instructed her legal team to watch the show closely in case Coleen mentioned the words “Wagatha Christie”, arguing she will reignite the feud if the row was brought up. Former WAG Rebekah, who had been married to footballer Jamie, claims to have coined the term which went on to dominate papers during the public spat.

Rebekah herself has already been in the jungle, appearing on I’m A Celeb back in 2017. While she triumphed at the Bushtucker trials, she was unable to impress the public and became the third celeb to be given the boot from camp.

I’m A Celebrity airs every day at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
