Anthony Ogogo says Celebrity SAS was ‘escape’ after devastating divorce

Anthony Ogogo has revealed starring on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins helped him through his “rubbish” divorce.

The boxer and wrestler, 35, spoke exclusively to Daily Star Sport as he promoted the latest series of the military Channel 4 show. Anthony had been with his long-term partner Casey Wicks since he was in his early teens but split last year.

Talking about how the show helped him face some difficult periods of his life, he admitted he would love to do the show again but this time with a clearer mind.

Anthony told us: “I would love to do the show again as I was going through a real rubbish divorce last year when I did the show, and it really, really hit me.

“We’d been together since we were 13/14, so 20 years, and it devastated me actually.

“I did the show as an escape, to get away for a little bit, it was only eight days but I could get away from the reality of my life. And to be honest, I wasn’t in the best headspace.”

He added: “But I’d love to do it in a better personal space, I think I’d perform much better.

“It wouldn’t have been as emotional and I’d have been better at navigating through saying certain situations.

“But listen, it was really fun and we got to be getting SAS for a whole week where we did the coolest things in the world, we shot guns, and drove cars.

“But I would’ve rather done it and enjoyed it more, rather than worrying what’s next, I’d go back to enjoy the little moments more, because it’s the little moments that make the experience.”

When asked if the show helped him heal through his devastating divorce period, he added: “Yes, definitely, more than I thought it could. “

The show will start on September 22nd

The 2024 series has been shot in New Zealand and will boast subzero climates, making it even tougher for the star-studded cast. Commenting on this year’s group of celebrity recruits, Chief Instructor, Billy said: “As our course progresses, the standards expected will never falter.

“From the very first second, the recruits will be expected to give 100%. Anyone not doing so will be gone before they have time to make their excuses. Our time is invaluable – we will not waste it on anyone not worthy.”

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins will air on Channel 4, every Sunday and Monday from 22 September at 9pm.
