“I think if I was asked to buy these today, I would ask £800, possibly £1,000. It depends where you are doing your buying and where you are doing your selling. The important thing is you were doing your buying and selling at the right time.”

While assessing the delicate intricacies of an item, a guest on Antiques Roadshow admitted: “I don’t know much about it to be honest apart from the name.”

In response, expert Eric Knowles, pointing towards the signature, revealed, “Liberty and Co Ltd Regent Street, London”. Clearly taken aback, the guest disclosed that she purchased the set based merely on its aesthetic appeal and notable branding.

Surprised by the revelation, the expert enquired, “What prompted you to buy it? ” Noting her attraction to the set’s aesthetics and recognisable name, the guest responded accordingly, “I just thought it was beautiful and also the name.”

In his detailed analysis, Eric educated her further: “The name is self-evident, you get quality items from that name. Date-wise, maybe 1910 or thereabouts, maybe a little bit earlier. It’s a beautiful enamel set. You’ve got a strainer, you’ve got your sugar tongs and you’ve got these tiny spoons.”

He continued, providing perspective on the distinct design pattern: “The design here, the decoration is very much 17th century in inspiration but the actual execution was taken in the early 20th century.”

Wrapping up the assessment, Eric applauded the guest’s top-notch find with a simple yet heartfelt: “Well done, you.”

As she then posed a cheeky question to him, “Would you like to buy them? ” for which Eric humbly replied, “That’s very kind of you.”
