BBC Breakfast fans ‘divided’ as Carol Kirkwood makes bizarre food confession

As potato prices skyrocket, BBC Breakfast’s Nina Warhurst visited a fish and chip shop supplier in Blackpool.

Sally Nugent and Jon Kay didn’t hesitate to quiz guests and fellow presenters on their favourite way to enjoy this classic British dish. However, it was Carol Kirkwood’s admission that caught Jon and Sally off-guard.

She confessed: “Well, I would have the fish and some dry chips, then when I finished the fish I would drown my chips in vinegar and a wee bit of salt. You can squish them in and then just absorb it, in fact, I probably have chips with my vinegar rather than the other way around.”

Jon was visibly surprised as he asked “What so you mush the chips?”

Carol confirmed her unique method, explaining she mashes them into the vinegar until they’re nice and soggy, according to the Express.

Sally was intrigued, responding: “I’m going to try that, that sounds amazing.”

Jon appeared less enthusiastic, suggesting Carol might as well eat mashed potatoes, but she was quick to defend her method.

She exclaimed: “No! It’s not the same at all Jon, you wouldn’t have vinegar with mashed potato. Oh, the truths that are coming out this morning.”

The subject matter clearly split the audience, with some keen to share their own chip shop orders, while others weren’t too impressed with the segment.

On Twitter, one viewer tweeted: “Chippy tea chat on BBC Breakfast. We haven’t had a proper silly season like this in about a decade.”

Another fan was less impressed, posting: “BBC breakfast this morning obsessed with Fish and chips once ok but all the program gets boring.”

A third chimed in with frustration: “Stop going on about fish and chips Jon,” while yet another vented: “Chippy tea, chippy tea, chippy tea. F****ng shut up…..”

However, some viewers were more than happy to dive into the debate, with one sharing their preference: “Fish chips and beans. Nothing else comes near.”

And another added their favourite combo: “Cod and chips, buttered roll, and a glass of coke.”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
