Tempers flared on BBC Breakfast when Ben Thompson got snippy with beloved weather presenter Carol Kirkwood.
Carol, usually found out and about, was instead in-studio delivering the dreary forecasts next to co-hosts Ben and Sally Nugent. With a grim outlook ahead, she certainly wasn’t bringing any sunny smiles that morning.
Sally seemed cheery enough, jokingly asking Carol if she’d be “singing”, clearly chipper for a Wednesday morning (August 21) – but Carol wasn’t having it, quipping back: “You might not be singing too much about the weather when you hear what I’ve got to say, Sal. The weather for the next few days is – I’m trying to think of a polite way to put it… not great,” Carol admitted.
Ben wasn’t feeling the gloom, rebuffing her with a brisk: “Okay done, that’s it. We don’t need any more,” reports the Express. Sally, ever empathetic, chimed in: “Not great. That’s the technical term for it.”
Doom and gloom filled Carol’s forecast with hefty dollops of “wet and windy weather” not to mention warnings for “risk of flooding and disruption” sprawling across the nation.
As talk turned to the seemingly accelerated arrival of autumn, Sally noted: “Now Carol, it’s August and it does feel quite autumnal doesn’t it?” Carol searched for the silver lining, replying optimistically: “It absolutely does, that’s a brilliant way to describe it this week Sal, yes.”
Wrapping up, Carol brought some relief: “The weekend’s not looking quite as horrible as it’s going to be for the next couple of days for the rest of the country, and the south seems a little bit drier than the north.”
Carol Kirkwood didn’t sugarcoat the weather update, admitting: “Dry weather for some to start with, some brightness around; but through the morning rain’s going to romp in across Northern Ireland, Scotland, northern England and north-west Wales.”
She delivered a heads-up about the incoming tempest: “Some of this rain will be heavy,” and issued a caution about blustery conditions: “and accompanied by gusty winds.”
But the banter got spicy when Ben Thompson declared that his snaps from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour are strictly confidential, asserting: “No-one will see those pictures, ever!”
Defiant Carol retorted with a mischievous hint: “That’s what you think, Ben!” to which Sally Nugent jumped in with support, saying: “We’ve got them all, haven’t we?”
Up for the challenge, Carol quipped back, suggesting potential embarrassment for Ben: “We have, they might be published.”
