BBC Breakfast shake-up as Sally Nugent ‘missing’ from sofa leaving Jon Kay to host solo

Jon Kay was flying solo on the famous red sofa during the latest instalment of BBC Breakfast.

The 54-year-old presenter appeared on Monday’s (July 15) show without his usual partner-in-crime Sally Nugent. He kicked off the week by bringing viewers up to speed with global events, but his co-host was notably absent from her usual spot beside him.

Instead, Sally popped up live from Berlin, where she was covering the aftermath of England’s gut-wrenching 2-1 loss to Spain in Sunday’s (July 14) Euro 2024 Final.

From Germany, Sally shared with the audience: “Good morning from Berlin where there was heartbreak once again last night for England.”

This isn’t the first time the show has mixed things up lately, reports the Express. Regularly anchoring the show from Monday to Wednesday, Sally was nowhere to be seen last week, leaving Sarah Campbell to fill her shoes Sarah often steps up when the main presenters are away.

Sally hasn’t spilled the beans on why she skipped the show, but rewind a year and she was soaking up the sun on a Marbella getaway with mates, including ex-BBC Breakfast star Steph McGovern.

During that vacay, Sally treated fans to some lush holiday pics, including one where she dazzled in a chic white beach dress. While Sally’s absence last year left viewers pining, they seemed pretty chuffed to have Sarah stepping into the spotlight.

One fan gushed on Sarah’s Insta back in the sunny days of June, saying: “Hopefully we’ll see lots more of you on the red sofa this summer, you definitely look at home there Sarah,” while another chimed in with: “Lovely to see you on Breakfast.”

Telly veteran Sarah has been gracing our screens for yonks, first popping up on BBC Breakfast as a reporter way back in 2003. Fast forward to 2024, and she’s bagged herself a spot as an official presenter of BBC News, after a decade of spilling the Royal tea as their Royal Correspondent.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
