BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty challenges co-star after he drops ‘C-word’ live on air

BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty playfully called out her co-host live on air after he used the ‘C-word’.

The 49-year-old presenter and her colleague Charlie Stayt, 62, were back on our screens as they hosted Friday’s episode of the morning news programme. During a segment, they were joined by BBC’s finance guru Ben Boulos to discuss the recent announcement that the cost of first class stamps will rise by 30p on Monday.

Charlie introduced the topic, saying: “We have Ben delving into this. I suppose purchasing now is one way to save.”

Ben elaborated: “That is one method to dodge the costs. It’s becoming quite pricey to post cards and letters and some businesses are starting to worry.”

He revealed that this is the third price hike since last October. Currently, a standard first class stamp costs £1.35 but from Monday it will increase to £1.65, marking a 22% rise, reports the Express.

Ben advised: “If you’re quick, you can buy a sheet of 50 first class stamps that will be £15 cheaper than if you purchased them on Monday. So if you’re planning to send a lot of Christmas cards, stock up over the weekend.”

The finance expert asked: “Will you be sending fewer Christmas cards due to the price increase or perhaps you’ve stopped sending items by post?”

Naga didn’t waste a second to challenge him on bringing festive cheer early, quipping: “So I can’t object to you saying the C-word now can I because it’s the fourth of October?”

Ben was quick off the mark with his retort: “Absolutely not, we are well on the run up to Christmas.”

Naga shared her thoughts: “I think there is a joy in sending Christmas cards.”

Agreeing Ben said: “There is a joy in receiving them,” but then admitted, “But there is also a stress in sending them.”

He turned to quiz Naga: “Do you get organised and get them all sent out? If you can do it in time to send them second class then it’s a great way to save money but for me you’ll be lucky if they arrive before the new year.”

Without missing a beat, Naga cheekily noted: “I’ve never had a Christmas card from you.”

That set Ben blushing as he confessed: “I’m so bad at sending them and getting organised so it doesn’t happen. You’re not the only one.”

Naga, with a playful nudge, encouraged: “Try to change that will you.” And Ben conceded with a laugh: “I’ll try.”

BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am and on BBC iPlayer
