A BBC News star has announced they are leaving the broadcaster.
Newsreader Karishma Patel has worked at the broadcaster for four and a half years, where she’s been working as a news reporter with Radio 5 Live and as a Middle East reporter. But now she’s bidding farewell to the BBC as they’re pursuing a new career.
The journalist took to X with a short post to confirm her exit and new career move. Alongside of a snap of herself reporting on 5 Live, she wrote: “Goodbye to @BBCNews after 4 and a half years of newsreading, reporting, and producing.”

She added: “I’m off to a non-profit called the Britain Palestine Media Centre, where I’ll be their Senior Social Media Engagement Officer – taking care of all things social media journalism related!”.
Karishma added that she was hoping to continue covering the ongoing Gaza conflict. She added: “This, of course, comes after many months covering Gaza for @bbc5live as a Middle East specialist. I’m keen to continue the work.”
She was flooded with supportive messages from her colleagues and fans. BBC journalist and newsreader Jo Hornby added: “Good luck lovely, we miss you!”.
One said: “Incredible news! Mabrook and congratulations!!! BPMC are lucky to have you, we all are.” Another commented: “Congrats! Looking forward to following your work there.”
Karishma isn’t just a journalist as she’s also got modelling and beauty pageant experience. She once entered the Miss England competition.
In her introduction VT to the contest, Karishma said: “I work in broadcast journalism which allows me to expose injustice where I see it and I do have a very strong humanitarian ethos.”
She added: “For the past two summers I’ve worked with a school in India providing a free education to under privileged children in order to break the cycle of poverty and provide them with more opportunities.
“I love to sing opera, Italian arias are my favourite. I play the piano and I like to compose for it and I do a lot of portrait photography because I love the emotion it brings out in people’s faces.”
She’s the latest BBC star to exit the broadcaster after a string of other exits from the cooperation. Back in July, Sean Rafferty quit his BBC Radio 3 show, and the BBC’s Global Health Correspondent quit at the start of the summer. BBC newscaster Aaron Heslehurst has also departed the channel after more than 22 years.
