BBC presenter dies aged just 32 as fans and friends flock to pay tribute

BBC presenter Nick Sheridan has sadly died at the age of just 32.

The BBC Scotland host’s cause of death has not yet been revealed, but Gary Smith, Head of News and Current Affairs at BBC Scotland, paid an emotional tribute to his co-star. He wrote: “We’re devastated to hear the news our colleague and friend, Nick Sheridan, has died.

“Nick has been a wonderful colleague. He was a hugely talented journalist, presenter and author – and one of those rare people who light up the lives of everyone around them. Funny, clever, kind. A lovely man. Our hearts go out to his parents, to his partner and to all his family and friends.”

Former first minister Nicola Sturgeon rushed to pay tribute to the journalist, writing: “So terribly sad to read this. It is truly awful. Nick was young, talented, vivacious, and full of potential. What a horrible, senseless loss. My thoughts are with his family, colleagues and many friends.”

His BBC colleague Elle Duffy added: “The most devastating news. Nick was one of the most welcoming and talented people I’ve ever worked with. He worked with me on some of my very first programmes and was up for any challenge. The newsroom won’t be the same without him. RIP.”

Another one of his co-workers said: “This is so so sad. Nick became part of my life during my final stages at university and was a huge help to me before I got my first job at the BBC, for that I am forever grateful. My condolences go out to his family and closest friends.”

Nick made headlines in 2017 for a hilarious on-air moment when he got the giggles talking about a nude pensioner “terrorising guests and staff” at a hotel. The presenter couldn’t contain his amusement while talking about the cheeky story at the time.

The BBC announced the sad loss on Thursday (March 7)
