BBC star Jay Blades has pleaded not guilty to engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour towards his estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen.

The Repair Shop star appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Friday (October 11). The 54-year-old attended court in a smart black suit and wore a matching hat.

Jay was charged with one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship by police last month. The charge is linked to his estranged wife Lisa Zbozen, according to court documents.

The charge alleges that the controlling and coercive behaviour happened between January 1, 2023 and September 12 of this year.

Lisa previously announced the end of their relationship in May. The fitness instructor broke the news to her followers on Instagram.

Last month, Jay appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court in relation to the charge and was bailed until the next court date.

On Friday (October 11), Jay, from Claverley in Shropshire, appeared before Judge James Burbidge KC, the Recorder of Worcester.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant spoke only to confirm his identity and to enter his not guilty plea. He was again bailed before a provisional trial, which is set for May 6, 2025.

According to The Sun, the charge sheets alleges Jay “engaged in behaviour towards Lisa Marie Zbozen that was controlling or coercive which had a serious effect on her, namely that it caused [her] to fear, on at least two occasions, that violence will be used against her, at a time when he knew or ought to have known that the behaviour will have a serious affect”.

Jay and Lisa got married in an intimate ceremony in Barbados in November 2022. On May 3, 2024, Lisa announced she had decided to end their marriage.

The same day, Jay was arrested.

Following the charges, Jay was dropped from The Repair Shop’s Secrets From The Barn tour. It is also reported that a Christmas special of the show may be axed.

The BBC have said it would “not be appropriate to comment on ongoing legal proceedings”.
