Saturday Kitchen’s very own Matt Tebbutt has spoken out about his replacement on the much-loved BBC One programme.
The cult classic Saturday morning show hit the screens once more this weekend, with the episode airing on Saturday (October 12). However, right from the get-go, something was amiss Matt Tebbutt, the regular face of weekend kitchen magic, wasn’t there to welcome viewers to the show.
In a swoon-worthy twist, silver screen idol Stanley Tucci, famed for smash hits like The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games and The Lovely Bones, took the reins to tease what delights were in store.
Gazing into the camera, he quipped: “Good morning. Do not adjust your sets, I’m taking over the show for one week only.” He promised viewers a flawless show by adding, “Now, here’s hoping I can do the dramatic turn justice. And this is Saturday Kitchen live!”
But after the show’s title blast onto screens, John was snug in his usual spot, ready to set the record straight on this ‘takeover’. Since 2016, Tebbutt has been steering the Saturday Kitchen ship.
He reassured everybody watching: “Welcome to the show. I haven’t been replaced completely. But our special guest today is well and truly in charge: Stanley Tucci!”, reports the Express, which naturally snagged some enthusiastic clapping from the crew.
Matt was joined by a top-notch squad including culinary wizards Georgina Hayden and Julius Roberts, with drink aficionado Helen McGinn throwing in her two cents.
This quirky incident follows a rather cringey moment from last week’s show when a mix-up involving veggie cookbook whizz Mary McCartney left viewers chuckling. Matt and his co-star chef whipped up a right storm in the kitchen with a mussel and tagliatelle dish. But things got awkward when he nattered about mussels, totally blanking on the fact that Mary, his co-star, was a veggie.
“Mary, where do you stand on a mussel? ” he blurted out. “I don’t eat them…” she replied, a hint of bother in her voice, as Matt butted in all quick-like: “Being a vegetarian.” Matt, clearly feeling a bit red-faced, muttered: “Right,” and ploughed back into cooking while Mary hammered home again: “I don’t eat them.”
Saturday Kitchen airs every Saturday from 10am on BBC One.
