One of BBC News’ most well-known faces has announced she will be off the air for several months after undergoing major surgery.
Regular viewers of the BBC News channel would know Karin Giannone, who regularly presents the rolling news and the biggest stories of the day. However, fans will now have to wait some time to see her back on our screens after she gave her followers a concerning health update.
Giannone stunned her fans with the news as she posted a snap of herself in a hospital bed with medical equipment attached to her. Smiling to the camera, she relaxed in the bed as she rested, as she explained her reasons for pulling out of the channel temporarily.

Taking to her Twitter account, 50-year-old Karin revealed that she had undergone major knees osteotomy surgery. During the procedure, doctors cut through the leg bone to help stop the symptoms of arthritis, whilst also realigning the foot to help it heal quicker.
Writing in the caption, she said: “I’m out of action for a couple of months after a knee osteotomy surgery, but very much looking forward to being back on air on BBC News when I am up and running again!” Soon after posting the update, she was inundated with messages of support and love from worried fans.
“Best wishes to you, Karin,” penned one well-wisher. “Get well soon.”
A second user said: Please get well soon! And looking forward so much to seeing you back!”
Similarly, a third tried to sympathise with the journalist, writing: “That sounds painful wishing you a a speedy recovery Karin.” Whilst a fourth account paid tribute: “Ouch. Lots of rest, hope you’re being waited on hand and foot and look forward to seeing you back at work.”
Karin’s operation comes as another blow to her career after BBC bosses pulled her from the airwaves last year. Chiefs at the station opted to stand Giannone down following the merging of the domestic and international news channels, losing her job with other four well-known anchors.
As well as this, Annita McVeigh, Martine Croxall, Geeta Guru-Murthy and Kasia Madera were also given the sack as bosses tried to find ways to cut back on costs at the channel. But now, it seems that producers are now offering all women permanent contracts once again in order to avoid a potential legal battle.
Karin was set to return in the coming weeks, along with Martine. Geeta and Annita, however, already made a return to the channel and have once again settled into their new presenting roles at the broadcaster.
