Fans of The Traitors were up in arms after the first episode of the new series – because a technical issue prevented them from watching the next two episodes on BBC iPlayer.
Viewers were left on the edge of their seats as the first episode of the new series drew to a close on Wednesday night (January 3). The second season of BBC One’s psychological reality show hosted by Claudia Winkleman introduced 22 strangers hoping to win £120,000.
The episode saw Paul, Harry and Ash become the first three Traitors and meet in secret to discuss who they were going to ‘murder’ first. The dramatic cliffhanger didn’t reveal the identity of the fourth Traitor.

Understandably, fans were desperate to find out who the fourth Traitor was, and they were shocked to learn that two new episodes of the show had been made available on iPlayer.
However, just as the most eager viewers rushed over to the BBC’s streaming service to watch the next episode, they were met with disappointment as it seemed to have crashed. It meant fans were unable to access the episodes and thus couldn’t find out what happened next.
Fans headed over to X, formerly Twitter, to vent their frustration at the alleged crash, which likely happened due to users flooding the site. One wrote: “Now is NOT THE TIME for iPlayer to stop working.”
A second said: “I think iPlayer crashed and had a little ‘moment’…” while a third commented: “Omg I can’t believe #TheTraitors has crashed BBC Iplayer.”
Another added: “iPlayer just crashed while they uploaded it.” However, it appeared the issue was resolved quickly as fans were soon able to tune into the next episodes.
The contestants will be living at the show’s stunning castle in the Scottish Highlands. Hidden amongst the Faithfuls are the Traitors, who must secretly ‘murder’ one player every night without getting caught by the Faithfuls.
The Faithfuls must try to figure out who the Traitors are and eliminate them from the game. Players can lie and betray their teammates in order to survive in a bid to win the money.
