Blackadder fans have been left gobsmacked after just realising a Harry Potter legend appeared on the beloved show.
The BBC show originally ran from 1983 to 1989, and instantly became a hit with viewers. The series followed Rowan Atkinson’s character Edmund Blackadder and his dogsbody Baldrick, played by Tony Robinson.
Defying the norms of TV at the time, Blackadder was told across multiple periods of history. The only constant things were characters Blackadder and Baldrick.

The show was a major break for several of the cast members, particularly Rowan. In 2004 it was ranked the second-best sitcom of all time, beaten only by Only Fools and Horses.
And with its last ever special episode airing in 1999, fans have been longing for a return. But over the years, the show has seen a fair share of actors pop up.
However, one Harry Potter legend’s stint has left fans both gobsmacked and impressed. So much so, that they dubbed their scene on Blackadder as one of the finest pieces of comedy acting.”
Over on a Reddit thread, one eagle-eyed viewer shared a video of Robbie Coltrane on the show. Robbie was a British acting legend, best known for his role as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter franchise.
For Blackadder, Robbie played Dr. Johnson. This episode from series three in 1987 produced some iconic quotes fans know and love such as contrafibularities.
Reacting to Robbie’s forgotten stint on the much-loved show, fans were left stunned. On the Reddit thread, one person said: “I had no idea that was him!” A second chimed in and proclaimed: “Holy crap!
“I watched Harry Potter as a kid and Blackadder as an adult, not realizing it was the same actor. Either I’m dumb or Robbie Coltrane has amazing range…probably both!”
While on X, one person shared their thoughts and said: “Robbie Coltrane’s portrayal of Dr. Johnson was one of the finest pieces of comedy acting you will ever see.
“His scenes with Hugh Laurie and Rowan Atkinson were pure comedy gold,” they added. A second wrote: “I looked up his filmography and I simply could *not* remember his role on Blackadder.”
