Blur star’s savage 5-word response to Liam Gallagher over ‘Oasis support acts’

The battle of Britpop supergroups Blur and Oasis is showing no signs of slowing down.

In fact, band members seem to be still dining out on the old rivalry by taking cheeky swipes on social media. This was evident when legendary guitarist Graham Coxon replied to Liam Gallagher on X recently.

The current frontman of The Waeve, and member of Blur, replied to Liam’s series of tweets where he revealed who would be opening for Oasis in the UK and Ireland leg of their tour.

Gallagher had posted to Twitter/X with details of the lineup for shows in Edinburgh, London and Manchester, asking fans: “Richard Ashcroft or Manic Street Preachers as support.”

He seemed to confirm Ashcroft had been chosen in a separate post, which said: “Just spoke to the CHEF here it is OASIS RICHARD ASHCROFT CAST you are welcome see you next year I’m off to to identify as a massive c*** LG x.”

But in a savage five-word swipe, Coxon advised Liam to “get a decent band in” for the tour instead. He had some suggestions of his own, including his own band.

Coxon wrote: “Really? Get a decent band in – Supergrass? Blur? Hhahah. [SIC].”

Supergrass recently announced a 30-year anniversary tour of their hit debut, I Should Coco, while Blur headlined Wembley for two sold-out shows last summer.

And people think combining the Britpop bands would be a stroke of genius. One commenter said: “The people want a Oasis & Blur tour! Would be a dream.”

Another user suggested: “Why not an Oasis Blur double headline tour? Headliner switches each night.” And another added: “Make it happen Graham.”

Seeing as the British bands have a long-standing rivalry, we’d be shocked if they could make it work. Especially as it was a far enough stretch for the feuding Gallagher brothers to bury the hatchet!

Blur and Oasis’ chart battle came to a head in 1995 when the Damon Albarn-led outfit topped the charts with Country House, beating Oasis’ classic Roll With It by 58,000 sales.

Oasis are laughing at the moment, though. That’s because Noel and Liam Gallagher are pocketing a reported £50 million from ticket sales and merchandise from their upcoming reunion tour.
