Britain’s Got Talent fans repulsed by ‘disgusting’ semi-final act on ITV show

Britain’s Got Talent viewers were left stunned over a sizzling sword-swallowing act, with some saying it shouldn’t be allowed on a family show.

Heather Holliday sent the audience wild on Wednesday night’s (May 29) semi-final, peeling off some outer layers of her clothes as she swallowed a huge curved sword and what looked like a lightsaber that lit up her body. Her stomach-churning stunts impressed Simon Cowell, who said Heather had a “glow” about her.

But his fellow judge Alesha Dixon was left squirming – and many fans of the ITV show felt the same way. Some took to X as Heather performed, with one joking that broadcasting watchdog Ofcom’s website would “crash” over all the complaints it was likely to get. Others said Heather’s act was “disgusting”.

“There are kids in the audience and who watch on telly, just because she’s swallowing swords shouldn’t mean she should be allowed strip tease on a family-friendly show,” posted one person.

Another said: “Don’t get me wrong! This is a skill but at the same time, sword swallowing is so repulsing to watch in general. My stomach is physically turning over.”

“Ofcom about to crash,” joked someone else. “Sword-swallowing isn’t my thing,” said another viewer. “I thought that was disgusting.” Somebody else wrote: “I’m sorry sword swallowing is not an act to be in front of kids!!”

Simon said the sword swallower had a ‘glow’

“I hope to god that the sword swallower doesn’t go through because I don’t think King Charles will like or love that,” another fan said on X, noting that the winner of Britain’s Got Talent gets to take part in the Royal Variety Performance. “It’s not for live or entertainment television it’s something you can do behind closed doors,” they added.

Heather ended up losing out on a spot in the final, with Sydnie Christmas and Mike Woodhams becoming the two acts from that semi to make it through to the last stage of the competition. But not everyone was happy about it, with some viewers saying she was extremely talented.
