Simon Cowell has confirmed that he is wearing red glasses on Britain’s Got Talent for health reasons, after viewers started speculating about a “mystery illness”.
The ITV entertainment show returned last week and fans spotted that Simon was wearing specs with reddish lenses as he took his seat alongside fellow judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli. The TV mogul didn’t address it and some people started wondering if he wasn’t well.
But the star has now revealed that the glasses are to do with his migraines, which can be made worse by the lights used for filming.

Sharing a snap on Instagram that showed him wearing them – alongside a picture of a bug with massive red eyes – he told fans: “I just found out according to the internet, I have a ‘mystery illness’.
“For anyone concerned, I missed two auditions at the end of one day, two weeks ago, because I do get migraines after long days in the filming lights. Next week we are filming BGT in Manchester – I look forward to seeing you then. PS. This is why I wear these glasses!” he added.
The TV star also told The Sun that the shades are “like a filter” for him. “And they actually do work,” he added.
Fans were relieved to hear Simon was OK, posting messages in the comments section sympathising with him over his headaches. “Glad you’re well,” said one. “Can’t really believe anything on the internet.”
“Thank you for sharing,” said another. “I won’t pick on you about your glasses any more. I wish you well!” One fan added: “Hope you get well soon Simon.”
Someone else told the star he looked “cool AF” in the bright lenses, and another person agreed: “You’re the reason that I myself just bought migraine lenses, I said if Simon Cowell can do and look cool so can I.”
“Don’t need to explain yourself to anyone Simon – just keep doing what makes you happy x,” another fan posted.
