BRITs confirm winner early as singer makes history with record-breaking nominations

Ahead of the biggest night in UK music, the BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard has unveiled another early winner.

The record-breaking singer RAYE – who holds the title for the most BRITs nominations by a single artist in one year, boasting seven nods this year in categories like Artist of the Year and Mastercard Album of the Year – has just been named the Songwriter of the Year. This prize was introduced in 2022 to honour extraordinary songwriting talent, chosen by a panel of expert judges.

Previous winners include Ed Sheeran and Kid Harpoon. Fans can look forward to a live performance by RAYE at this year’s BRITs, joining other performers such as Becky Hill X Chase & Status, Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding, Dua Lipa, Jungle, Kylie Minogue, Rema and Tate McRae.

In response to the nod, RAYE said: “I am so so honoured and blown away, honestly, to be given this prestigious award for Songwriter of the Year, it is my very first BRIT award and I will treasure this trophy very much. I am so grateful to be recognised as a songwriter as this is a craft I am so passionate about and have been since I started my journey as a musician, and I’m very grateful to those who voted for me to have this award.”
