An icon of Brookside is set to make a return to our screens after bagging a huge new role on another soap.
Louis Emerick has been well-known to Brookside fans for playing shopkeeper and taxi driver Mick Johnson on the Channel 4 show until he left in 2001. Since then, he has made a number of guest appearances, but is set to make a comeback as he signs up for another Channel 4 show – Hollyoaks.
Emerick will be taking on the role of Donny Clark, the estranged father of daughter Vicky, played by Anya Lawrence. Donny joins the cast when she shows up at Vicky’s 18th birthday do, but he is not immediately welcomed in by the family.

His character has been described as “charisma personified”, which is a perfect fit for Louis – who took on the role of the beloved Mick when he starred in Brookside back in the 1990s. However, Donny’s character will have to resort to doing anything to make sure he rebuilds his relationship with his estranged children.
He also is set to ruffle feathers after Scott Drinkwell, played by Ross Adams, was planning to adopt Vicky on her 18th birthday party. However, Donny’s arrival is set to throw the plans up in the air – especially following news that new student Andre confided in Vicky that they were secret half-siblings.
Producers have also said that Donny is a “confident and charming man with an infectious personality and a kind heart”. They add: “He always tries to do right for his kids and he comes to the village ready to build a relationship with estranged daughter Vicky.”
As the show gears up for his introduction to the soap, Louis will be marking a milestone event for his career when he sets foot in the village next Tuesday (April 9). Louis’ first episode in Hollyoaks playing Donny will be exactly 35 years to the day since his debut on Brookside back in 1989.
Speaking on joining the show, Louis said he was thrilled to be returning to a Channel 4 soap once again. “Donny is coming back to see his son and it collides with his daughter’s birthday, which is very emotional as it’s the first time he has met her,” he explained.
“It has equally been moving for me personally,” he continued. “I was there when Hollyoaks began.
“We sat with the Brookside and Hollyoaks crew and watched a screening of the first ever episode in 1995. It is so exciting to be back with this vibrant cast and crew, back on the set where it all began,” Emerick finished.
