Cheryl’s son Bear makes Radio 1 debut as fans gush over his ‘little Geordie accent’

Cheryl’s fans were over the moon when her son Bear made his BBC Radio 1 debut at just seven years old.

On Friday (April 12), Little Mix hitmaker Perrie Edwards appeared on Greg James’ Breakfast show. The radio presenter tasked the blonde bombshell with calling up her A-list friends during a cheeky game of Sit Down, Stand Up.

The 30-year-old singer, who was promoting her new single Forget About Us, opted to phone her old pal and fellow singer Cheryl, 40. She confessed that the pair are close pals and regularly keep in contact.

But after dialling the number, the tot surprised listeners when he picked up the phone instead of his famous mum. Listeners were shocked to hear his voice due to the fact that Cheryl and her ex-boyfriend Liam Payne, 30, tend to keep their little one out of the public eye.

Greg asked: “Hello, who is this?” as a beaming Perrie asked: “Is this Bear?”. “Yes” he replied, before confirming that he was indeed sat down as the Sweet Melody singer had predicted.

It was at this point that a very surprised Cheryl then came on the line, telling host Greg: “Bear is saying, ‘It’s my first time on radio now everyone knows me’.” Before moving on to the next caller, Bear wished Perrie good luck with her new hit single.

It didn’t take long before fans flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their love for the youngster online. One user penned: “This is so wholesome” as another agreed: “He’s so sweet”.

A third echoed: “It was so cute” as a fourth chimed in with: “OMG they just called Cheryl on Radio 1 and Bear picked up and he was so cute!! He has a little Geordie accent.”

A fifth wrote: “Aww Bear so cute saying good luck Perrie on her music and hearing Cheryl speak too, my two girls from two favourite brands.” Cheryl previously shared a clip of her youngster Bear when she helped him sing Jingle Bells back in 2020.

The mother-and-son duo appeared on a special episode of Table Manners with Jessie Ware when fans got a glimpse into Bear’s cheeky personality. The podcaster asked: “Are you being cheeky?” to which he giggled: “Yeah!”

Cheryl was keen to show off his already impressive singing skills as the duo belted out the lyrics to Jingle Bells. When quizzed about whether or not he’ll follow in his famous parents’ footsteps, he shyly said: “Hmmm” as his grandmother Joan Callaghan gave him some hot chocolate.

Earlier this year, Bear’s dad Liam posted a rare snap of his son to Instagram sending his 26million followers into a frenzy. In the photo Liam hid his son’s face as he showed the little one a billboard in London’s Leicester Square advertising his new single Teardrops.

He captioned the post: “I want to be on a billboard one day daddy”. Fans soon flooded to the comments section, failing to believe how much Bear had grown up.

One user gushed: “Bear has grown a lot!” as another argued: “No way that’s Bear! I feel old”. A third pointed out: “Bear is soooo bigggg” while a fourth echoed: “He’s already that big???”
