Ricky Hatton has posted on social media for the first time since news broke of his rumoured romance with Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney.
When the fighter traded the boxing ring for the Dancing on Ice rink, many assumed his athleticism would be enough to see him cruise to performing the Bolero on final’s night. Alas, it didn’t exactly work out like that.
While the Mancunian hero was renowned for his dynamite hands at the peak of his powers, it turned out that figure skating wasn’t for him, with the power puncher sent packing after falling foul to the first dreaded skate-off.

However, while he didn’t win the competition, signing up for the ITV reality programme certainly worked out, as he met rival Claire, who’s apparently rendered him nothing short of ‘besotted’.
The couple went reportedly public about their relationship over the weekend, after pictures made their way to the internet of the duo enjoying some time together in a pub, with Claire looking gorgeous in a jumpsuit. This prompted a reaction from their followers, who were all chomping at the bit for some more information. And now, Ricky has given them some, although it’s not overly relevant to what they wanted to hear about.
While sitting in the car, he revealed that he’d had laser eye surgery, with rhyming slang: “Mince Pies needed sorting.” The contestants met at the start of the show, and instantly hit it off. But sadly, Ricky was quickly eliminated in what could’ve ended their romance.
However, keen to keep the spark alive, he reached out, and the pair have been going strong ever since. A source told The Mirror: “The chemistry was electric [when they met]. Ricky went out of the show early on, but he contacted her afterwards, and let’s say he started wooing her.
“They’ve been out on several dates. Saturday was just one in a long line of them. They’ve been seeing each other quite a bit. He is completely besotted.”

While some wouldn’t put the pair together, Ricky is renowned for overcoming the odds, having famously beaten Kosta Tszyu for the IBF world title in 2005, in what is still considered one of the greatest feets a British boxer has ever achieved.
This, combined with his palpable charisma and sense of humour, has resulted in the sportsman having proven a huge hit with the ladies.
The source concluded: “It seems like an unlikely match, but he’s always had a way with women. They fall for his personality, and Claire has. He knows her number one priority is her son [Jaxon, nine], so they are being very careful. Let’s watch this space.”
