Coleen Nolan admits she ‘laughed’ at cancer diagnosis as she goes in for treatment

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has shared that she will need more cancer treatment after noticing “dry skin”.

Last year, Coleen, who is 58 years old, had treatment for carcinoma on her shoulder. This type of cancer is described by the NHS as a “non-melanoma skin cancer”. She also mentioned that she’s waiting for treatment for “pre-melanoma”.

Coleen discussed this during a podcast, revealing that she was advised to get treatment for a “dry” patch of skin after her first solo tour, Naked. Coleen started the tour this month and it will finish in March.

While chatting with Scott Thomas on his podcast Learning As I Go, she said in the latest episode: “I got skin cancer [last year]. I had carcinoma on my shoulder which has now gone.

“And chemo cream on my shoulder so that burned that off. And then I’ve got this tiny bit of dry skin and I’ve been saying for ages, ‘it doesn’t matter how much oil or cream I put on it, it won’t go’. [

“And then doctors] said ‘no, that’s pre-melanoma,’ so that will eventually if I don’t treat it, it will turn into melanoma, skin cancer, which is worse than carcinoma. So once my tour has finished I’m gonna get that sorted.”

During a heartfelt chat with former Love Island star, Scott, the Celebrity Big Brother star said: “I’m not being funny, I laughed when he said it because I thought, ‘well of course I have, because cancer loves my family’.”

She said she “laughed” when she heard the news

She shared the fact that quite a few of her siblings had battled with cancer, including her older sister Anne Nolan and Linda Nolan, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. Sadly, the condition spread to Linda’s brain. Their sister Bernie Nolan passed away from breast cancer in 2013.

She reflected on a conversation with her sister Linda, retelling: “When I said to Linda ‘do you ever think ‘why me’?’ She goes ‘no, I always think why not me? Why shouldn’t it be me?'”

A sense of perspective came into play during the podcast discussion, where she commented: “My sister’s got cancer in her brain so me coming home going ‘oh I’ve got pre-melanoma’ seems really dramatic and pathetic even though it’s not. It’s still serious and if I don’t treat it, it will be cancer.”

However, she calmly mentioned getting treatment wasn’t high priority before the tour, as there was no urgency to do so yet. As she put it: “I can’t [get treatment] before the tour and there’s no rush. If they’d have said to me ‘you need to treat that now’ I absolutely would have.” From what the dermatologist told her, everything seemed under control and she could seek treatment after the tour.
