Janey Godley has tragically shared that she’s facing “end-of-life” care after her cancer has taken a turn for the worse.
The 63-year-old Scottish comedienne made the heart-wrenching revelation that hospice care was on the cards as she can no longer endure the rigours of chemotherapy. Initially diagnosed with ovarian cancer back in November 2021, Janey once celebrated getting the all-clear in the following year.
However, she returned to tell the public that further scans revealed the cancer had made an unwelcome return, this time in her abdomen. Taking to Twitter X, Janey broke the news of her situation to her followers, addressing those curious about her time left by saying: “I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks. I’m not a tick tock.”

The courageous star described the moment she knew her journey with chemo had hit its limit: “The chemo ran out of options, and I just couldn’t take anymore of it and the cancer has spread. So it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it.”

Despite grappling with her impending fate, Janey found the strength to speak up about her plight, while also showering praise onto the NHS staff, the support system from her friends and family, and remaining resilient throughout her emotional update.
Janey shared: “It is devastating news to know that I’m facing end of life, but we all come to an end sometime.” Overcome with emotion, she said: “I hope you all have a lovely Christmas. Hopefully I might be here. Who knows? Don’t know. I’m not a tick tock.

“But I just want you all to that I’m sending all my love and support to everybody else out there who is living with a life limiting disease.”
Despite her initial diagnosis, Janey Godley planned to keep the laughs coming on her stand-up tour but tragically had to shelve her plans last week when it was revealed she has incurable cancer. She was ready to crack jokes on her Why Is She Still Here? tour with performances lined up in major UK cities including London, Belfast, and Edinburgh, only to be told by health professionals to halt her work for the foreseeable future.

The official word from Janeys website confirmed the heart-breaking turn of events last week: “It is with huge sadness that we must announce the cancellation of Janey Godley’s autumn 2024 tour. Janey has been living with stage four ovarian cancer for the past few years and the treatment from the wonderful Scottish NHS has kept the disease at bay, but sadly in the last few weeks the cancer has returned and there have been a few added complications. Her doctors have now advised her that she must stop work for the foreseeable future.”
“Janey is devastated to let down her thousands of loyal fans, and the wonderful venues, she has played many times over the years. She would like to thank everyone for their love and support at this difficult time.”
