Coronation Street horror as Liam Connor found unconscious after taking pills

Coronation Street fans can expect plenty of drama this week on the ITV cobbles.

Over the past few months, ITV fans have been gripped to their screens as Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) has been horrendously tormented by his school bully Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan). Thankfully, the newcomer faced the cold hand of justice when he was given a custodial sentence for threatening the youngster with a monster knife.

It’s fair to say the terrifying ordeal has had a huge effect on the teens self-esteem, to the point where he even considered taking his own life to stop the torment. Despite his bully facing time behind bars, Liam is still feeling the effects on his compromised mental health.

At the start of the week, Liam and Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) settle down to watch a film together. But things take a turn for the worse when Joseph asked him if things have improved at school.

It’s at this point that Liam struggles to breathe and immediately reaches for his inhaler. After watching his horrible panic attack, Joseph insists on telling his mum Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) but Liam refuses because he doesn’t want to worry her.

While Joseph keeps lookout, Liam rummages through the cupboards for sweets but what he finds instead is much worse. The youngster stumbles across Paul Freeman’s (Peter Ash) stash of Benzo pills and quickly pockets them.

Meanwhile in the Rovers, Gary Windass (Mikey North) watches Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien) with concern as she knocks back the wine. When he spots her heading home with another bottle, he finally intervenes.

When Liam returns home to find that Gary is missing, he feels another panic attack coming on and takes out one of Paul’s Benzo pills. Things quickly go from bad to worse when Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) discovers the missing pills.

It’s at this point that Joseph reveals to Billy that Liam was looking for sweets earlier in the day. All alone in the flat, Liam lies unconscious as the empty pill bottle rolls next to him.

Later on in the week, Maria explains to Billy and Paul how Liam has been battling suicidal thoughts since Mason’s arrest. But it’s not just Liam who is left down heartened this week when Maria returns home to find Sarah and Gary looking shifty.

She picks up some things and surreptitiously places a camera on the side, determined to get to the bottom of their bizarre friendship. As Gary sees Sarah out, they share a loving embrace and agree to keep their distance from now on.

Meanwhile Maria watches them on their phone and her face darkens. At the end of the week, Gary’s hoping for a reconciliation, but Maria makes it clear that’s not on the cards.

Gary is gutted at the outcome as a distraught Maria confides in Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) how Liam has been for his first therapy session, admitting she feels like the worst mum in the world.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX
