A Corrie star’s stoma bag leaked in front of a crowd of people.
Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon, was left with a perforated bowel and life threatening sepsis after she flew to Turkey to undergo botched liposuction back in September. She was given an opportunity she couldn’t refuse, which ended in disaster as doctors were forced to operate.
Her family were left panicking about hospital bills after it was made clear that her medical insurance wouldn’t cover the costs. Bethany has been covering herself in baggy clothes and pushed Daniel away due to her growing fears around intimacy.

The character is terrified that Daniel will be put off by her stoma, but in next week’s episode he aims to change her mind. Her loyal partner manages to coax Bethany out for a romantic date on the cobbles, but sadly things don’t go to plan.
The Mirror have revealed that their cosy night in The Rovers leaves Bethany feeling ashamed after her stoma bag suddenly leaks. Embarrassed, Bethany leaves the pub in shame during heart-breaking emotional scenes alongside Fallon’s co-star Rob Mallard.
Behind the scenes, Lucy worked closely with P.E. teacher Natalie Tibble, who has inflammatory bowel disease ulcerative colitis and shared insight into the condition with the Corrie actress for the gut-wrenching storyline.
The Mirror reported that Tibble said: “Bethany feeling very embarrassed when her bag leaks is something that is very relatable to anyone who has had a stoma. I can remember my first time when I was in a café and it was absolutely mortifying when my bag leaked in public.”
“You feel so self-conscious and I can remember running to the toilet and bursting into tears because I felt so embarrassed,” the teacher recalled. Tibble explained that she ensures she always carries extra bags and clothes for those just-in-case situations.
Natalie continued: “My stoma bag has leaked many times since that first day in public, including on the school playing field where I teach, but I have learned to realise that yes, you can have some bad days, but it is actually all ok.”
“I’ve got my trusted bag full of spare clothes and stoma bags with me wherever I go.” Coronation Street’s storyline with Bethany aims to raise awareness of the one in 225 people in the UK living with a stoma, and the ITV soap has also been working alongside Colostomy UK.
