Coronation Street’s Ed insurance scam ‘exposed’ as fans ‘work out’ fire twist

Coronation Street fans are convinced they have worked out the real reason behind Ed Bailey’s sudden fire in the builder’s yard.

Over the past few months, ITV viewers have watched the doting dad battle with his gambling addiction unbeknownst to his loving family. But on Christmas Day, the family were dealt another bout of heartache when he sold all their gifts and staged a robbery in order to pay off his growing loans.

It didn’t take long before his kids Michael and Dee-Dee discovered he had fallen back into old habits when they discovered all their gifts had been pawned at a local dealer’s shop. The news devastated the family, with no one but his lawyer daughter sticking by his side as he started rehab again.

Things only took a turn for the worst on Wednesday (January 24) night, when Ed found himself homeless after his pal was forced to retract his offer to house him for a few weeks. Viewers saw the star break down in tears when he was left with no option but to spend the night in the builder’s yard.

However, things only spiralled out of control when the heartbroken dad stepped out for a hearty portion of fish and chips. After learning from other residents that his dad was struggling, Michael decided to pay him a visit at the yard.

It was at this point that Michael spotted the place was on fire and rushed in to, worried that his dad was passed out in the place which was quickly becoming engulfed in flames. Moments later, Ed returned to see the place on fire with his son trapped inside, shouting for help.

Thankfully, Ed was able to pull his son from the flames as passers-by called the fire department. Now, viewers are convinced that Ed deliberately set the place ablaze in order to pay off his remaining debts with the insurance money.

A fourth echoed: “Did Ed set the fire to claim the insurance? methinks probably #Corrie” as a fourth chimed in with: “So white spirits get spilt by accident, Ed is in for an insurance fraud storyline now I’m assuming!!! #Corrie.”

Later on in the show, viewers watched Michael being driven off in an ambulance with his dad as PC Craig Tinker discussed the scene of the crime with a fireman on the scene. When asked how the job is going, the fireman confessed: “It’s crispy.

“I’ll give you a shout when you lot can have a gander.” Craig asked: “Have you any idea what might have started it?” to which the fireman replied: “Are you joking?

“Mate, the whole place still reeks of white spirits.” Later on in the show, Craig shared his suspicions with his sergeant, insisting: “The fire at the builder’s yard on Victoria Street, I reckon it’s an insurance job.”

Fans will have to stay tuned to see if Ed was to blame for the place going up in smoke and whether or not he will be charged with insurance fraud.
