Blood and human tissue was found at her flat with it thought to be Lauren’s, and police believe someone killed her. Amid news of a villain returning to the soap, with fans theorising the villain in questioned is linked to the Lauren storyline, new teasers may have been revealed.
Managing Director for Continuing Drama at ITV John Whiston issued a statement recently, when asked about the recent dark storylines on the show that have left fans complaining. It was something he said in his comment that may have teased the truth about Lauren’s vanishing act, and whether she might still be alive, reports the Mirror.
Coronation Street has defended its decision to address the disappearance of Lauren, a character who was groomed and possibly abused, after criticism from some viewers. The statement read: “Coronation Street is, and always has been, a mixture of characters you love, earthy humour and stories that matter such as the current Liam bullying storyline or the Lauren grooming storyline.”
“The show is proud to explore important contemporary issues such as these and our audience research shows that viewers really appreciate these stories and believe we deal with them in an engaging but responsible way. Which is why Coronation Street continues to be the most-watched soap on British TV.”
The statement does not explicitly confirm that Lauren was groomed, but it does suggest that the show is aware of the issue and is committed to addressing it in a responsible way. The statement also mentions Nathan Curtis, a character who was convicted of grooming and raping Bethany Platt.
Curtis is due to return to the show in the coming weeks, and it is possible that his return will be linked to Lauren’s disappearance. Fans have speculated that Curtis could be the one who groomed and abused Lauren, and that he may have kidnapped her.
However, this has not been confirmed by the show. Coronation Street has a long history of tackling difficult and sensitive issues, and it is likely that the show will continue to do so in the future.
The show’s decision to address the issue of grooming is a positive step, and it is hoped that it will help to raise awareness of this important issue. We’ll have to hold our breath and see what unfolds, including whether Lauren is still alive.
