Coronation Street favourite Colson Smith opened up about his chilling encounter with a ghost – but something didn’t smell quite right.
During the latest instalment of his podcast On The Sofa (April 18) – which he presents with his co-stars Ben Price and Jack P. Shephard – the Celebrity Big Brother star shared his spooky encounter. The soap hunk revealed he was spending the night on his parent’s sofa after enjoying a tipple during his visit.
But things soon took an unexpected turn when the 25-year-old settled in for the night in his makeshift bed. He told listeners: “This weekend, I had to sleep on the sofa at my mum and dad’s house.

“So I start making my little bed on the sofa in the living room and I start feeling uneasy. I kept seeing this light come past the door, like it constantly came past the door.
“So I was like, ‘Right, ignore it’ because if you don’t look at it, you can’t see it. So I just put my head down to the side so that I can just get to sleep because I’m so tired, like I need to get to sleep.”
It was at this point that things took a turn for the worse when he heard what he thought was a “witches cackle”. He went on: ““And then I’m drifting off and then I hear this [makes creaking noise].
“And then my heart is f***ing pounding, and I’m like, ‘God, it’s a bad spirit’ because it’s like a witch’s cackle.” The silver fox couldn’t help but interject with a cheeky joke as he quipped: “I bet it’s your grandma.”
Colson explained that after a few hours, he couldn’t take it any longer and went to warn his mother. The actor explained: “I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ I remember I had my Sonic the Hedgehog pyjamas on, and I was like, ‘I’m just going to go up the stairs’.”
His co-hosts immediately poked fun at the TV hunk’s sexy pyjamas, as they chuckled: “God was this now? And you had your Sonic the Hedgehog pyjamas on? Now?” Thankfully, the redhead took their jokes on the chin as he insisted: “Look, this is me, alright.”
Admitting that the scary noises were too much for him, he said: “I thought, ‘Look, I’m just going to go up to my mum’s room and I’m going to tell her that I’m going to stay in a hotel’.”
Ben questioned: “What? In the middle of the night?” as Jack chuckled: “He’s woken his mum up because he’s scared.” Colson immediately argued: “No, I haven’t, I haven’t. This is because I’d heard this [makes creaking noise], the witch’s cackle.”
It was at this point that his co-stars demanded to know what was making such a chilling noise. Ben asked: “What was it? A bird?” to which the soap star confessed: “No, it was the f***ing air freshener.
“But it sent me, I was gone. My heart was racing,” he insisted as his co-stars burst into laughter beside him. It’s fair to say the Ghostbusters never smelt so good.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
