Todd Boyce was warned about colleagues “leaking stories” on his first day at Coronation Street.
The 62-year-old star first appeared on the cobbles as serial killer Stephen Reid between 1996 and 2007 before returning in June 2022 but he was bumped off last year after murdering three characters.
He has recalled his first day on set at ITV almost three decades ago and says that his on-screen mum, sister and love interested were all on hand to lend him support.

Speaking on the Soap from the Box podcast, he told host Lee Salisbury: “I was anchored with Sue Nicholls and Helen Worth so I was just insulated and loved from the start and we just got on so well and I had to do Amanda Barrie. They were these three women who just took me under their wings.
“I remember someone wanted to take me to lunch on my first day. He shall remain nameless and Sue, Helen and Amanda said don’t say a word to him because he might have a tape recorded. Do not say a word about anything you don’t want discussed because he will leak it. They were just brilliant and had my back. I felt cushioned by them and generally everyone.”
Before he appeared in Coronation Street, Todd starred in a movie with Kylie Minogue. The actor and Padam hitmaker appeared in 1989 romance movie The Delinquents. The Australian flick is based on Criena Rohan’s 1962 book of the same name and starred Kylie, in her feature film debut, and Charlie Schlatter as the main characters Lola and Brownie.
Todd played the role of Lyle, who hosts a party with his partner Mavis which is attended by Lola and Brownie. The film was released to mixed reviews from critics at the time.
He told Lee: “It was a big Warner Brothers film so we had this big red carpet affair in Leicester Square with limos dropping us off. It really was a wonderful, memorable, first night. We had a big party in a great venue down Tottenham Court Road somewhere.
“I said to my friends, these were my dancing days when I was clubbing, there is no such thing as a dancefloor with Kylie. She will dance where she’s standing. She wasn’t going to walk to a dancefloor. She was so magnetic, so gorgeous and so charming. She was great to work with. We finished filming about six months before the film was released so it was a great experience and it was a cool film to do.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX
