Country superstar MacKenzie Porter “didn’t want to worry about clothes” while shooting her “raw” new album cover.
The Rodeo songstress, 34, is set to release her longest album yet, entitled Nobody’s Born With A Broken Heart. The star has been busy in recent months getting everything ready to go, including the vulnerable cover art, which features MacKenzie staring directly into the camera in a wide-open, vulnerable pose.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star about what it took to shoot, the songstress explained: “Everything I’ve done before has been a little more glam, more flashy, elevated or even edited. I wanted this to be a bit more real and honest, and raw.

“I wanted less makeup; it wasn’t about what I’m wearing, just more about the feeling. That was the goal when we shot – I was like, ‘I know I want it super tight, I know I want it to be not super glam looking’ and I think we achieved that. I think that’s more what this record is.”
And when it comes to choosing a favourite track from the new record, MacKenzie says it’s like “choosing your favourite baby”. She said: “There are different ones I’m proud of for different reasons. Pay Me Back in Change lyrically, there’s a really cool twist on the lyrics. But then there’s Confession, which feels very honest to me, or Rough Ride for a Cowboy is a really fun one to play live!
“How do you pick your favourite baby? I don’t know!” she joked. But it’s not the only baby on the way, as MacKenzie is expecting her first child with her songwriter husband Jake Etheridge. She spilled: “It’s been very interesting. I never thought this is how it was all going to play out, if I’m completely honest. It was not planned to come at the same time!
“I played the [Grand Old] Opry on Friday, and it was so cool – like, ‘I’m literally playing the Opry, I’ve played it twice with her in my stomach’. She can hear everything now and that’s really cool. But there’s also been hard stuff – morning sickness on a flight is very not fun when you’re promoting a record.
“So there have been challenges, but also the sweetest moments. The record comes out a month after I give birth, and I’m sure that’ll be a challenge too. There are already situations where I’m gonna go out promoting it, or going to go on tour, and it’s like, ‘Do we take her? Do we leave her at home for a couple days with my husband?’ I don’t know how that’s gonna look. We’ll figure it out.”

Jake has helped MacKenzie narrow down which tracks eventually did make it onto the album, as she said: “Jake has heard every single song and helped me narrow down, he’ll give his opinion on his favourites. Even content, thinking about hat I should post or shoot, we definitely always run that by each other.
“He’s so supportive – the other day he was like, ‘This is the best stuff you’ve ever done, I love these songs’. He’s not a country music listener, he’s more an indie rocker dude, but he is a big fan of my stuff which is really sweet.”
