Countryfile’s Anita Rani slams ‘divorce dress’ claim after wowing in see-through gown

Anita Rani has opened up about her sensational “divorce dress” that turned heads at the BAFTA TV Awards.

During a chat on ITV’s Lorraine on Tuesday (May 14), The Countryfile star, 46, rocked the red carpet in a sheer, beaded number that had everyone talking since her split from her hubby of 14 years last September.

Lorraine Kelly couldn’t help but gush over Anita’s look, saying: “That is a woman in her prime. It’s a dress that gave you so much confidence.” Anita hit back with: “It’s not a revenge dress and it’s not a divorce dress. It’s a woman owning who she is.”

She confessed that a decade ago, she wouldn’t have dared to wear such a bold outfit, fretting over her arms and thighs all that “I would not have worn that dress 10 years ago; I probably would have worried about my arms and my thighs and all that nonsense.”

“But for some reason, I think there is something about a woman’s transformation where you just embody a bit more confidence.” Anita felt compelled to “own the dress” for her family and other women, especially after enduring a rough patch with her marriage ending and losing her auntie.

She elaborated: “I’ve had a hard few years, my life has changed. I lost an auntie, during lockdown and I’ve not spoken about that. It was really hard. We were very close, and she wasn’t even 60…then you realise well maybe she should have lived for herself a bit more. And here I am with this amazing opportunity and privileged life which I’ve worked very hard for.”

“I thought, I sort of owe it to a lot of women who come before me to just… wear that dress!” Anita said she’s being in “an amazing place” currently following some therapy sessions as well as taking time “to heal”.

Earlier within the month, Anita revealed that she’s content being “loves being a single woman with no children” after separating from tech company boss Bhupi Rehal. After moving back into the flat she purchased two decades ago, the presenter relishes having a “blank slate” ahead of her.

She confided in Good Housekeeping magazine saying, “I feel like I’ve stepped into a place that I never, ever expected myself to be in. I’m in uncharted territory – I’m a single, Asian woman with no children, and do you know what? I love it! I’ve sort of got a blank slate in front of me, and that feels really good. I bought a flat about 20 years ago, which I kept for all these years, and I’ve moved back into it.”
