Craig David hosts unique rave in London launderette, playing hits like ‘Rewind’ during laundry time

The surprise gig, which took place outside of business hours, lasted for a quick 15 minutes – the same time as a speedy wash cycle, providing entertainment for customers waiting for their laundry.

The singer-turned-DJ belted out some of his biggest hits, from ‘Fill Me In’ to ‘Rewind’, as the crowd grooved along in the neon-lit launderette.

The Persil Wonder Wash ‘Fast Wash & Rave’ was organised following a study of 2,000 adults which revealed that those aged between 25-34 are most likely to complete tasks quickly before and after their standard 9-5 workday.

Instead of sleeping or preparing for work, 20% of this group prefer to be active at dawn or dusk, tidying up their homes. But others opt for a brisk walk, a gym session – or even a bit of bedroom action.

However, it turned out that those aged 18-24 are next in line to make the most of their mornings, with 40% being early birds. Of all the adults surveyed, 27% of 18-24 year olds are likely to seize the day by rising early – though 21% wish they were better at it.

Craig David, who partnered with Persil for the event, said: “I’ve performed in some wild locations, but never at a launderette – get that washing in, 15 minutes, play the set and bop bop bop.”

He added: “I’m definitely more of a night owl than a morning person. My morning routine is to get up, drink water, have a shower – and it’s in the shower where I find my inspiration.”

“If I had an extra 15 minutes, I would use it to just take time to myself, our time is the best currency we have, it’s so important.”

“I’ve loved performing at the Fast Wash and Rave – the crowd was brilliant and it smelt great.”

On a typical day, the average early bird completes four tasks between 5-9am, such as doing laundry or watering the plants. Yet, a third of all participants feel they spend too much time on laundry, from sorting and washing to drying and putting away.

Nathan Palmer, spokesperson for Persil, commented: “People across the nation are leading incredibly busy lives. Between work, family, and social commitments, it’s astounding to see how many of us are working on significant things outside of traditional working hours.”

“Our research has shown that many people wish they could spend less time doing laundry, and we aim to help people make the most of their time.”

“It has been a real joy working with Craig David to reward these hard workers with a once in a lifetime experience.”
