Dakota Johnson unrecognisable in forgotten The Office cameo before A-list fame

Dakota Johnson fans may not know that the actress had a cameo in The Office.

She played a character with the same name and she was hired as Kevin’s replacement after the star of the show, Dwight, fired the workplace icon. She then began flirting with Clark, who started at Dunder Mifflin as one of their new Customer Service Representatives and first appeared in the season nine episode New Guys.

On The Office’s wiki page, her character description says: “A year after the documentary has aired, Kevin has been fired by Dwight and Dakota has taken his place. She appears to be quite young and she is tall with blonde hair. She asks Oscar about a strange mark that Kevin made on all his forms, which Oscar reveals to be ‘Keleven’ (a fictional number to balance accounts and was the reason Kevin got fired.”

Dakota had a totally different hair colour in The Office

The description then continues on to say that she is “seen flirting with Clark” who “flirts back just as much” while in the office and at their after party. She only appeared in two scenes during the legendary show’s final episode, which is perhaps why many have forgotten her role.

When the finale episode aired in 2013, two years before Johnson shot to fame as Anastasia Steele in the 50 Shades of Grey franchise, Dakota was an up and coming actor. Before she starred in The Office, the actress had small roles in The Social Network, 21 Jump Street and The Five Year Engagement.

According to Johnson in a 2012 interview, her appearance was meant to set up a future spin-off series of The Office. The show was intended to follow the employees after Dunder Mifflin’s famous characters were either fired or resigned, but the show never came to fruition.

In an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Dakota confessed that she didn’t have the best time on set: “[…] thinking I’d show up for like, half a day. I was there for two week and I’m barely in the f***ing show. I was in the background with all of these scenes faxing things.”
