Dancing on Ice’s Eddie ‘The Eagle’ had women lining up to romp and says ‘I could’ve had more’

Dancing on Ice’s Eddie ‘The Eagle’ has had his fair share of women show their interest in him over the years.

The ski jumper married his ex wife in 2003 and their relationship lasted until 2016 – but before then women were lining up for him in his heyday. In 1988, he became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping and had a lot of attention from fans.

But it seems a chunk of his loyal fans came from the ladies. Back in 2013, he said in a candid interview that he was the “George Clooney of the ski business”.

He said because he was so relaxed and cheerful he was able to have female fans “standing in line” to have a night with him.

Eddie cheekily told Germany’s Bild newspaper at the time: “Why not? I was single at the time and didn’t live the life of a monk.

“I could have had a lot more groupies in my hotel room than I did, but to by honest I wasn’t up to it. I couldn’t manage that many. What was on offer was more than my ability to satisfy it.”

Eddie was a famous ski pro in his heyday, and as a fan of chilly climates he’s making his mark once more as he hits the ice for the ITV skating competition. The latecomer replaced Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb after an injury.

Speaking of his stint, he said: “There’s a lot of pressure now that everybody thinks I’m going to be a really, really good skater.

“I’m a really, really bad skater at the moment. It’s a completely different sport. When I ski I automatically get myself into a certain stance. That stance is not a good stance for skating, which is why I keep falling on my face, because I’m used to arching my back and going forwards.”

Eddie put on a great first performance with his pro partner Vicky Ogden last week as they danced to Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer. He kicked off the show by descending from a huge eagle which was suspended on metal wires.

He immediately impressed viewers at home – but will it send him all the way through the competition?
