The Olsen twins shared a rollercoaster childhood.
Mary-Kate and Ashley began their careers as child actors the same year they were born. Once their parents welcomed them back in 1986, just two minutes apart from one another, they were immediately put to work after they were cast on Full House.
The duo played Michelle Tanner and won the hearts of a nation with their adorable look, which later led to a hugely successful acting career. They skyrocketed to fame with individual film and TV roles, author credits and even their own fashion line – by the time they were ten, the duo were reportedly self-made millionaires.

Mary-Kate and Ashley were known for their generation-defining films including Our Lips Are Sealed, When In Rome and New York Minute (which was the last film the pair starred in together). However, their success didn’t come without controversy,

Shortly before Mary-Kate turned 18 she was admitted to a rehabilitation facility for help with an eating disorder and allegedly for drug addiction. A source told People that her loved ones performed an “intervention” as they “didn’t want to find her dead on the floor from not eating”.
During their college years, the twins were forced to drop out of NYU after other students reportedly sold stories on them. Ashley told Marie Clare that she “couldn’t show up to some classes” as there would be “paparazzi outside” waiting for the girls.

Back in 2016, Ashley was diagnosed with Lyme disease after noticing symptoms that matched up with the tick-borne illness. According to OK!, a source told them she was “really sick” and that the star had been “diagnosed in the very late stages”.
In a Marie Claire interview back in 2010, Mary-Kate told the publication: “I wouldn’t wish my upbringing on anybody. I look at old pictures of me and I don’t feel connected to them at all.” She even compared herself and her twin to “little monkey performers”.

Back in 2004, Ashley made the decision to ditch full time acting and in 2012 the sisters retired from Hollywood. Nowadays, the Olsen twins are very private people and focus very seriously on their businesses and their extremely popular fashion brand The Row.
