Davina McCall was seen wiping away tears at the 2024 National Television Awards (NTAs) as she was honoured with a Special Recognition award for her decades-long career in showbiz.
The audience shared in her emotional journey as ITV aired a montage of her work, including her roles on Big Brother, My Mum Your Dad and Long Lost Family. Celebrity pals such as This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary offered their support as the video showcased her impact on them.
In the tribute, Dermot praised Davina as “kind, generous, smart and funny”, while Claudia Winkleman from The Traitors described her as “totally authentic”. She added: “She is exactly as you see her.”
Throughout the video, a small preview of Davina showed her reacting with shock and emotion to the heartfelt words. As the praise continued for the 56-year-old star, she was visibly moved to tears, reports the Express.
At times, she was also seen shaking with laughter, mirroring the range of emotions experienced by those around her. Alison Hammond warmly said: “If you have a Davina in your life, trust me, you’re doing alright.”
The beloved TV personality then made her way to the stage, still visibly emotional, to accept her award. She received a standing ovation from the audience, appearing to be in total shock at the overwhelming response.
Upon receiving the award, Davina expressed: “Thank you so much. This means so much, I can’t even begin to tell you.”
She continued with a heartfelt speech expressing gratitude towards her colleagues and networks including ITV and Channel 4.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she confessed: “I love my job. I feel so privileged to be able to share it with all of you and that you quite like some of it, not all of it.”
Turning to her partner, Michael Douglas, Davina declared: “I love being on this journey with you. You make me a better person and you make me so happy. Thank you.”
