Terrifier 3 has received a super rare ban.
After reports of vomiting and film fans walking out of the cinema due to the film’s gory nature, France has decided to slap the film with a ban. Ahead of the film’s release, the country’s film classification committee placed an under-18s ban on Terrifier 3.
This is reportedly the first of its kind in almost two decades and the last time this was used was for Saw 3 back in 2006. Metro reported: “Horror films in France ordinarily receive the maximum of an under-16 ban, with an under-18 ban reserved for the most extreme of films.”

The film’s French distributors spoke to Bloody Disgusting and released a statement. They said: “We can only deplore this unexpected final decision, which will seriously hamper the release of the film, awaited by tens of thousands of French viewers and scheduled for 9 October (and of course maintained).
“Terrifier 3 is a film d’auteur in the purest tradition of the slasher genre, with the perfectly ‘grand-guignolesque’ and unrealistic violence. The film never takes itself too seriously and we know that viewers will have the necessary distance and maturity to understand and appreciate this artistic approach.”
They went on to say that “for over two years,” the team have “been working daily and tirelessly to defend free, creative and radical genre cinema”. Horror fans eager to watch the third instalment in the Terrifier franchise have also kicked up a fuss about the ban.
Many called the decision “ridiculous,” with one person on Reddit fuming: “Considering how horrible some new French extremity films are, this seems weird to me.” Another quipped: “This really upsets me. Why is it they didn’t ban minors from T2? And why is Saw 3 in this category?”
Others also noticed that the first two films in the franchise were not slapped with the same ban, alongside The Substance, another gory release that recently hit cinemas starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.
