EastEnders has missed out on winning one National Television Award despite being nominated in multiple categories, and fans are fuming. The National Television Awards returned to ITV live from the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London on Wednesday evening (September 11). Comedian Joel Dommett hosted the glamorous awards show celebrating the very best of TV from over the past year.
However, EastEnders fans have been reeling after the BBC One soap failed to scoop one award despite being nominated in the categories for Serial Drama Performance and Serial Drama.
Actress Angela Wynter was up for the best drama performance gong for her portrayal of Walford’s Yolande Trueman, alongside co-star Diane Parish who plays Denise Fox.
But Peter Ash won the award for his portrayal of Paul Foreman in Coronation Street following his character’s tragic diagnosis of motor neurone disease (MND)
EastEnders then faced Casualty, Corrie, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks in the best serial drama category. But rival soap Emmerdale took home the award.
Fans of the BBC soap were left fuming as EastEnders walked away from the NTAs empty-handed.
Taking to X, one person wrote: “Emmerdale! Are you kidding me! #Eastenders , you were robbed. Robbed, i tell you #NTAs.”
Another added: “Eastenders not winning best soap, this award show is a joke #NTAs,” while a third complained: “EastEnders writers have been streets ahead of the rest the last year, surprised they didn’t get the recognition tonight. #NTAs.”
Someone else shared: “Emmerdale has been good recently so deserved but EastEnders still robbed of the serial drama award #NTAs.”
While another continued: “Sounds like the #NTAs were a disaster across the board? Ant and Dec still winning somehow, Mrs.Browns Boys AND Eastenders not getting best soap? The NTAs are a scam!!”
The National Television Awards are available to watch on ITVX
