EastEnders legend ‘lost clumps of hair’ and had ‘bruises’ after on-screen fight

EastEnders’ Lacey Turner has opened up about filming some rather “wild” on-screen fights on the BBC One soap.

The telly legend shot to fame playing Stacey Slater – making her debut in 2004. Since then, she’s become one of the soap’s most iconic characters.

The feisty Walford resident has also played a part in several big storylines too over the years, from her steamy affair with Max Branning (Jake Wood) to killing Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb).

She also played a key role in the build-up to Christmas and the explosive episode last year, becoming a member of The Six. And her battle with bipolar bagged actress Lacey a slew of awards.

Stacey is a firm favourite on the BBC soap

But it’s fair to say Stacey is also no stranger to an on-screen scrap either. From fights in the square to scraps in the Vic, Stacey’s not afraid to get her hands dirty.

And according to actress Lacey, she often walks away from the on-set fights with “hair missing” and “bruises on her body” as “it can get a bit wild.”

Speaking on Isolation Interviews, Lacey was quizzed on what’s like to film the rather full-on fights. She replied: “It’s strange because it’s not in my nature to fight.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a fight, but obviously Stacey’s had a hell of a lot.” Lacey went on to add: “But some of the best fights she’s had have been with Janine.”

She continued: “Once you get into it, you get this fire in your belly and when they say cut, you’re still shaking because didn’t know you had it in you.

“But it’s great, they’re always very choreographed and then you sort of just go for it and sometimes it goes a bit wild! I’ve lost a few clumps of hair and had a few bruises over the years but they tend to be the best ones.”

It’s hard to imagine Walford without Stacey in it. But the character almost looked completely different as Lacey originally went for the part of Demi Miller.

Months before making her first appearance on Albert Square, the soap star was whittled down to the final two for the role of Demi. BBC bosses eventually chose Shana Swash, the sister of Joe Swash, for the part.
