EastEnders’ Natalie Cassidy ‘called meeting’ to come clean to bosses about on-set romance

EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy has revealed she called for a meeting with the soap’s chiefs to announce her relationship with cameraman Marc Humphreys after they dated in secret for months. The 41-year-old and Marc, 38, feared their on-set romance would impact their careers, but soon realised that this wasn’t the case.

On Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, she explained: “With Marc, I did worry about the working situation very early on. So, we started seeing each other without anybody knowing for quite a while, six to eight months. And then once we knew, we wanted to make it public at work.

“He was worried about his job, you know crew, cast, what’s it going to be? And then I actually called a meeting with his boss. ”

In the meeting, Natalie revealed they were dating, but, reflecting on the moment, she now realises it wasn’t as significant as she had feared, adding: “Everyone was a bit like, ‘What is this about?’

“And I went into a room and said, ‘I just want everyone to know that I’m seeing Marc Humphreys, he’s a cameraman who works here’, reports the Express.

“‘I want you to know that it’s not just a silly little thing. It’s professional and we’ll be professional, but I want you to know that it’s really serious and I don’t want to hear anymore about it’.”

The Sonia Fowler actress remembered bosses thanking her for the information, but that they were left “bamboozled” by her need to disclose it.

She added: “I got it all in my head that it was a big thing when they must’ve thought, ‘What is she telling us for?'”

Fast forward the years and the couple have now been together for a decade and share seven-year-old daughter Joanie.

Upon meeting Marc, Natalie was a single mum with three-year-old daughter Eliza, now 13, from her ex-fiancé Adam Cottrell.

The actress admitted she feared her situation would initially put Marc off from wanting to date her, but fortunately, she couldn’t have been more wrong.

As their romance blossomed, Marc told Natalie he “fell in love” with both her and her daughter, which made her think, “this is just meant to be”.

A year into their romance, Marc popped the question, to which she accepted.

Addressing why they are yet to make it down the aisle, however, the actress said it is simply down to her being “indecisive”.

She previously told OK! Magazine: “One minute I want a great big wedding, the next minute I think we could just go somewhere really easy. I’m very indecisive.

“But at some point, I do think we’ll get our close family together at a lovely place in London, go to a restaurant and have a big party afterwards. Ten years would be a brilliant time to do it. Either ten years together or ten years engaged.”
