EastEnders could be set for a soap first in their upcoming 40th anniversary episode.
Next year, the BBC One soap, which first went on air in 1985, will celebrate 40 years on the telly. And it’s fair to say the programme has delivered on drama over the years.
From record-breaking storylines like 2001’s Who Shot Phil to the controversial baby swap storyline in 2010 – fans have watched the soap with their mouths on the floor.

But now, viewers reckon that to celebrate the soap turning 40 next year, something big is in store. And it could see a soap first take place.
Over on a Reddit thread, fans shared their predictions on the 40th anniversary episode of EastEnders. One fan pointed out how it could see Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) tie the knot in what would be a soap first.
“Eastenders pulling off the first successful lesbian UK soap wedding would be brilliant,” the fan wrote. They went on: “Eve and Suki have been talked up as soulmates and all that, but I’d love to see them go all out and have a massive wedding bash to celebrate the anniversary.”

Someone else chimed in and agreed: “I can’t lie. I would love this! Even better if it’s done live! A first live successful lesbian UK soap wedding. Yes please!!”
A third viewer had a more heartbreaking theory in mind. They mused: “Nish destroys the Vic with everyone inside during Eve and Suki’s wedding reception. Eve and Suki die in each others’ arms.”Someone on X, formerly known as Twitter, also agreed and said “Still thinking how great a #Sukeve wedding for #EastEnders 40th would be.”

EastEnders fans will recall how Eve and Suki struck up a romance in 2022. At the time, Suki was married to evil Nish (Navin Chowdhry). Fortunately, Suki broke free from Nish and was able to be with her one true love, Eve.
If Suki and Eve were to have a successful wedding – it would be a soap first. There has never been a successful lesbian wedding on soaps before – with one character usually falling victim to an untimely death.
