EastEnders fans have been left gobsmacked at Balvinder Sopal’s secret soap past.
The character plays Suki Panesar on the BBC soap – making her debut in 2020. As the feisty matriarch, it’s fair to say Suki’s time in Walford has not been short of drama.
From her affair with Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) to breaking free from her abusive husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry), Suki has had her fair share of heartache and drama on the soap. More recently, she assisted in the cover-up of the murder of Keanu Taylor.

Fans of the BBC soap finally saw the Christmas victim revealed on Christmas Day to be Keanu (Danny Walters) after months of speculation and waiting. He ended up getting stabbed by Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) after he attempted to strangle Sharon Watts.
Even though Keanu was no longer a physical threat, his death wasn’t the end of their torment. The rest of The Six women, Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Linda, Sharon, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Kathy Beale desperately covered up the grisly scene at the Queen Vic. They then ended up hiding his body at the burnt-out cafe, owned by Kathy.
However, fans have since been left gobsmacked after realising the number of soaps that Balvinder has appeared in. Over on an EastEnders Facebook fan page, one user shared a photo collage of Balvinder, starring as characters in an array of different soaps.
These soaps include Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks. The social media user captioned the post: “Such a brilliant actress.” Fans couldn’t help but share their shock at Balvinder’s past soap roles. One person said: “Didn’t realise she was in corrie and Emmerdale.” Someone else added: “Brilliant Actress love watching her.”
A third chimed in and penned: “Didn’t even realise! The queen of soaps!” Another quipped: “I didn’t know she had been in other programs, well done to her, she’s done very well.”
Balvinder appeared as P.C Marks in ITV serial drama Coronation Street back in 2013 and again in 2017. She also played a police officer in Emmerdale the follow year in 2018 and arrested villager Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) over Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) acid attack.
Soap fans will also remember Balvinder for her role in Hollyoaks as the social worker who observed Courtney Campbell as a mother to baby Iona. Balvinder’s stint as a series regular on EastEnders means she’s officially appeared in all four major British soaps.
However, the actress does not just feature in soaps. Many also recognise her from her roles in BBC’s Call The Midwife and BBC medical drama, Doctors.
In Call The Midwife, Balvinder played Mumtaz Gani, a childless Pakistani woman whose husband is pressured to marry a second wife. In Doctors, Balvinder appeared as Aafiyah Choudary in the 2018 episode “Without and Within.
Some eagle-eyed Waterloo Road viewers may also recognise Balvinder too. She had a small role as a doctor in the BBC school drama series back in 2010.
