Elvis Presley’s Graceland mansion saved from ‘Nigerian scammers’ by music icon’s granddaughter

Elvis Presley’s Graceland mansion has been saved from ‘Nigerian scammers’ by the music icon’s granddaughter.

In a bizarre twist, the mysterious company behind the plot to sell the property out from under Presley’s family claims to be a Nigerian scam ringleader. Written in a Ugandan language, the emails stated that the scam targeted ‘gullible’ Americans, but said the music icon’s family “beat me at my own game”.

Emails from Naussany Investments & Private Lending LLC sent last week claimed the King of Rock’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley owed it $3.8 million (£3million). But the scam came unstuck after Elvis’ granddaughter Riley Keough, 34, applied for an injunction.

There’s lots of quality news coming out of the US.

The true identity of Naussany and what actually happened there remained a mystery, as there was no trace of it in the real world.

None of the phone numbers were operational, all addresses were post office boxes, and there was no official documentation of it anywhere.

But when the New York Times emailed the address given in the court filing, the would-be scammer came clean.

The response claimed the whole thing was an elaborate plot.

“I am the one who creates trouble,” the self-confessed criminal began the first of two emails on Friday.

He said he was the leader of a group that targeted deceased individuals, senior citizens, and other unsuspecting Americans.

The scammers used birth certificates and other personal documents of trusting individuals in California and Florida to carry out their fraudulent schemes.

“We figure out how to steal. That’s what we do,” the scammer posing as Naussany confessed.

“I had fun figuring this one out and it didn’t succeed very well.”

The scammer confessed that they were caught and the game was up, praising Keough for defeating them.

“Yo client dont have nothing to worries… win for her,” they wrote. “She beat me at my own game.”

Experienced lawyers and real estate experts were shocked by the trick, with one describing it as “extremely unusual to the point of being unbelievable”.

“They picked the wrong piece of property,” University of Memphis real estate professor Mark Sunderman told the newspaper.

“If this had not been such a high-profile piece of property, they might have gotten away with it.”

In September 2023, Naussany started bothering Keough, saying that her late mother used Graceland as collateral for a loan in 2015 and didn’t pay it back by the 2022 deadline.

Keough refused to pay, so a $2.8 million (£2.2m) ‘reduced’ settlement was proposed with a collection claim filed in a court in Los Angeles. However, this approach failed too.

Naussany responded by placing an ad in a Memphis newspaper, stating that Graceland would be sold at a foreclosure sale on May 23 at the courthouse steps to the ‘best and highest bidder’.

Jeff Germany, the lawyer representing Keough, exposed the lies in court by revealing the serious doubts about the authenticity of the documents.

Germany’s account was uncontested in court as there was no representation from Naussany at Shelby County Chancery Court.

He stated in court that he had absolutely no communication with Nassauny, any lawyers representing them, or their supposed leader Kurt Naussany.

Chancellor Jenkins told Wednesday’s hearing that his office had received an overnight application from someone calling himself Gregory Naussany asking for an extension of time.

“It appears to be a one-page facsimile,” he told the proceedings: “The court will deny the request.”
