Emma Stone has made a shock statement about her name.
The actress spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and when asked whether she’d correct a fan who used her real name Emily, she said: “No, that would be so nice. I would like to be Emily.” Stone said that the “people she works with” call her Emily once they’re comfortable with each other.
When starting out in the industry, Emma decided to change her moniker because Emily “was taken” by another actress. However, it seems that recently her decision has had a lasting effect further down the line.

“Then I freaked out a couple of years ago, for some reason I was like: ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.’ Stone then said that referring to her as “Em” is “easier”.
This isn’t the first time the Hollywood actress as spoken about her name. On an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the star revealed that she used to be “super blonde” and wanted to be called Emma because of her resemblance to pop star Emma Bunton, also known as Baby Spice from the Spice Girls.
Stone then confessed: “It wasn’t necessarily because of her but yes, in second grade did I go up to the teacher on the first day and ask her to call me Emma? Yes I did. And was it because of Emma Lee Bunton from the Spice Girls? Yes it was.”
Turns out Emma was a big fan – the starlet “saw them in concert in the 90s” and “at the O2 Arena in 2008”. Emma Stone has also been making headlines after speculation about whether she called Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel a “prick” at this years’ event.
After making a joke about the sex scenes in her latest flick Poor Things, many viewers thought they saw Stone make the offensive comment. However, Emma was quick to set things straight in her interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“Did he upset me? No! I didn’t call him a prick. What did I say? I didn’t call him a prick. I wasn’t upset with him at all. I’ll have to look that up, I’m near unoffendable.”
